Gene Kelly (Eng. Gene Kelly; b. August 23, 1912 – February 2, 1996, Pittsburgh, PA, USA) – American actor, choreographer and director. Is best known for his role in the famous musical “Singin ‘in the Rain” (Eng. Singin’ in the Rain), although he was a Hollywood star in the 1940s and 1950s, during which time creating dozens of wonderful films that are included in the golden fund world cinema.
As a child, Gene Kelly was fond of dancing, and later worked as a bricklayer, a waiter and a dance teacher. The first success on Broadway came to Kelly in the musical «Pal Joey». Thanks to David O. Selzniku Kelly moved to Hollywood. The first film role was offered to Gene Kelly «MGM» in the film directed by renowned choreographer Busby Berkeley “For me and my girls” with Judy Garland. From 1949 to 1957, the actor with excellent vocal and choreographic data showed himself as a talented director and choreographer, created in collaboration with Stanley Donen directors and Vincente Minnelli’s most beautiful American musical films of his time, among them the brilliant Hollywood musical “Singin ‘in the rain “, where Kelly made sorezhissёrom Donen, played a movie star Don Lockwood and created several dance numbers. Along with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire Gene Kelly was a striking phenomenon of musical cinema of the fifties of the twentieth century. After 1957, Kelly has focused mainly on the director’s work.
