Ginger Rogers (born Virginia Katherine MakMat) was born on July 16, 1911, in Independence Missouri, in the United States – in the family of William Eddins MakMata and Leila Owens. Surrounding a small Virginia believed that she started dancing earlier than walk. By the way, nicknamed Ginger she received as a child – her little cousin could not pronounce her name and called her “Gigi.”
After some time the mother Ginger divorced her father and drove the girl to his grandfather and grandmother in Kansas City. When Ginger was nine years old, her mother remarried – for John Logan Rogers. Then something changed her last name and Ginger Rogers.
At fourteen, Ginger Rogers won the championship of Texas at Charleston, organized a dance group “Ginger and red” and recovered in a month’s tour of Texas. The tour lasted for three years – then Ginger has traveled almost the entire western part of the United States.
At Christmas 1929 Ginger Rogers made his Broadway debut in the musical «Top Speed», and later danced and sang in the musical Ira and George Gershwin «Girl Crazy». After the premiere performances, Ginger Rogers signed a seven-year contract with the studio «Paramount Pictures».
