Jane Alexander was born Jane Quigley October 28, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Daughter Ruth Elizabeth (nee Pearson), a nurse, and Thomas B. Quigley, an orthopedic surgeon. Alexander graduated from Beaver Country Day School, a girls’ school in Chestnut Hill outside of Boston, where he discovered his love for acting.
Encouraged by her father, Jane went to college, instead of just to try herself as an actress – in New York, Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, where it has concentrated all his strength and skill in performing arts, but also studied mathematics, showing his obvious abilities in computer programming. Mathematics was like clockwork, but as an actress Jane has not yet taken place. Her first husband, Robert Alexander, actress met in the early 1960s in New York City where they both attempted to develop his acting career. The couple had a son, Jace, in 1964, a few years after his birth, Robert and Jane filed for divorce.
Jane worked in regional theater when she met producer / director Edwin Sherina in Washington, DC, where he served as artistic director of the Arena Stage. Alexander became the star of an original theatrical production of “The Great White Hope” led by Sherina for Arena Stage before the debut of the play on Broadway. The two became good friends and both leaving behind a divorce, became romantically involved with each other, got married in 1975. As a result, the couple have four children, all from previous relationships: son Alexander, Jays, television director, and Sherina three sons, Tony, Geoffrey and John.
