American producer, director, teacher and actor, who played a central role in the development of American theater in the 20th century. In 1930 he was instrumental in the approval of the theater on the radio, and two decades later – on television.
 
Hausman (real. Name – Jacques Hausmann, Jacques Haussmann) was born September 22, 1902 in Bucharest. Educated in England. In 1924 he moved to the US, where in 1934, together with composer V.Tomsonom staged Thomson and Gertrude Stein’s Four Saints in Three Acts (Four Saints in Three Acts). In 1935, in a period of fruitful Hausman, though far from cloudless cooperation O.Uellsom. In 1936 they participated in the project “Classical Theatre” in which to stage a play Doctor Faustus K.Marlo and Cradle Will Rock (The Cradle will Rock) M.Blitstayna. In 1937, Welles and Houseman founded his own company – “Mercury-Tietr.” His sharp performances (for example, a modern version of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, with the characters in Nazi uniforms) was a milestone in the history of the Broadway stage. Houseman was the author and director of the series Welles time radio shows, the most memorable caused mass psychosis War of the Worlds by HG Wells.
In the movie, Housman was produced 18 films (The Blue Dahlia – The Blue Dahlia, 1946 Letter from an Unknown Woman – Letter from An Unknown Woman, 1948 Bad and beautiful – The Bad and The Beautiful, 1952; Julius Caesar – Julius Caesar, 1953; Administrative claim – Executive Suite, 1954 will to live – Lust for Life, 1956, etc.). His films have been nominated 20 times for “Oscar” and awarded it 7 times. As a filmmaker, he continued to work in the theater, in 1947 carried out the world premiere of the play Life of Galileo with the Brecht Ch.Loutonom starring. On Broadway, they were delivered also plays the lute song (Lute Song, 1947) and King Lear (1950). In the late 1950s he produced a number of television programs, which earned three awards, “Emmy.” Houseman died in Malibu (Calif.) October 31, 1988.
