Derek Luke was born April 24, 1974 in Jersey City (New Jersey) – in the city, where his father, Maurice, a native of Guyana. As previously actor in London, he settled down and married the pianist Merzhori Dixon. They divorced when Derek was in third grade, her mother took three sons – Derek Morris, Jr. and Daniel little to educate them on their own. Derek invited to lunch a friend who was familiar with Antoine Fisher, and who knew that a former sailor has a script based on his life for the film adaptation of which was hired by director Denzel Washington. Luke became friends with Fisher and … failed audition for the lead role. It was a failure. But, showing a small smyshlёnost, Luke asked second audition and got it. The actor had to undergo three more tests before he was accepted into the composition.
