Mazda Furai Concept

In early 2008, Mazda introduced the concept Furai – racing masterpiece from carbon. In the same year we (and only we) were allowed to ride on it. And then the car mysteriously disappeared. Fast forward to someone’s secret collection? Immured in the glass? No. But let’s begin with.

For three years, from 2005 to 2008-th, Mazda composed concepts that demonstrate design language Nagare. Although in 2011 the conceptual Shinari Nagare was replaced by Kodo (shape this CX-5 and Mazda6), Dynasty “Nagar” has opened to us the world of artistic freedom without boundaries, conventions and norms. Furai – top of Nagare. The last and most stunning car born of this philosophy. Sample order might look like a racing car for the road. So what happened that summer?

Bentwaters airfield, August 19, 2008. 11:52 am. Time for the last shot. Furai growls menacingly at Vzletka. We caught up on the mound (asphalt at Bentwaters slightly curved, forming a mound). Brimble clicked tirelessly. Before turning Tayskherst started to slow down and drop transfer. And then roared Furai not as le-mann prototype and mortally wounded elephant. “Some bad sound,” – said Lee, not coming off the viewfinder.

And as soon as the Mazda entered the straight, we saw a tongue of flame, but deep in the engine compartment. Fire in the priceless concept? Ouch!

“OFF! God, he’s on fire! “- I said, holding back the panic. Tayskherst did not hear me, so I ran to catch up with him. Of course, even the wounded, smoking Furai faster minivan. Soon, frantically switching and buzzing, we caught up with smoldering Furai.

“MARK! OFF! Get out! Mark, you burn! “- I shouted, still controlling emotions.

Tayskherst killed the engine and jumped out before the Furai stopped. Timid spark grew into a flame that enveloped the engine compartment. A fire can not see us from abroad. Signals and blinking, I rushed to the horizon. Furai in the rearview mirror already burning like a torch.

Finally, the best sons of Suffolk piled into the car and drove to smoke. At 200 meters from the car sat on his haunches and Mark watched as flames devoured the concept. At the outbreak of ethanol, it became clear that this is the end.

The remains were sent in Irvine, California, where the Advanced Design Studio Mazda. Where are they now, nobody knows. But one piece of burnt Furai is on my desk, reminding how quickly things can go wrong. Then Mazda did not want to know about the crash. But now it allowed us to publish an article, which we hope will begin a new chapter in the history of Furai. If a concept and deserves to rise from the ashes, it is this one.
