Paula Patton was born on December 5, 1975 in Los Angeles, California (Los Angeles, California), in the family Vanraden Joyce (Joyce Vanraden), a white American and a schoolteacher, and African-American lawyer Charles Patton (Charles Patton). Paul grew up in Los Angeles, she studied at the School of Hamilton (Hamilton High School) and was admitted to the University of California at Berkeley (University of California, Berkeley), but after the first year transferred to the film school at USC (University of Southern California) – since 2006 it is called USC School of Cinematic Arts, – and graduated with honors.
