Ghanaian scientist and politician, the second vice president of the Republic of Ghana and its third president.
John Evans Atta Mills was born on 21 July 1944 in the town of Tarkwa Western Region of Ghana. In 1963 it graduated from high school, John Achimota School and entered the University of University of Ghana in Legon. In 1967, the year he completed his studies with a Bachelor of Law. Subsequently, John spent a year in the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London office, and became one of the few African students selected to study at Stanford Law School in the United States.
After receiving his doctorate in law, John Evans Atta Mills came back to London and two years later earned a doctorate in “tax and economic development.”
In 1974, the year of Mills returned to his homeland, and for twenty-five years he taught at the University of University of Ghana at the Faculty of Law. During this time he worked on his own publications in the field of economics and taxation, as well as conducted public lectures at many universities and participated in international symposiums and conferences in different countries. In addition, he was a member of the Ghana Stock Exchange, a member of the board of trustees of the miners, a member of the administrative committee of the Commonwealth of tax officials at the United Nations, as well as preparing for the magazine edition on the taxation of Ghana.
In 1988, John Evans Atta Mills was appointed commissioner of the State Tax Service of Ghana. Five years after the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, as a member of the party “National Democratic Congress”, he was elected by popular vote for the position of vice-president. In 2002, the year he was re-elected as vice-president, and in the 2004th received the mandate from the party to participate in the presidential election. He lost, but in 2008, he ran again and won. John Evans Atta Mills took the presidential oath on January 7, 2009, and became the third president of the Republic of Ghana.
John Evans Atta Mills is married to Naadam Mills and has a nineteen-year son from his first marriage. As a member of the national team of Ghana’s field hockey, and now he plays veteran hockey team and strongly supports the Ghana Hockey Federation.
