Arthur started singer-comedian in the orchestra Horace Heidt, a frequent speaker on various radio stations in the 30s. His film career began much later, in 1941, with the film ‘Pot o’Gold’. However, even after the debut Carney continued to work mainly on the radio; for the most part he played character roles and portrayed celebrities.
 
Arthur William Matthew Carney (Arthur William Matthew Carney, 4.11.1918 – 9.11.2003) – American actor of theater, film, television and radio. Best known for the role of Ed Norton, a neighbor at the top full of Jackie Gleason Ralph Kramdena comedy project ‘The Honeymooners’.
Carney – the youngest of six sons; he was born in Mount Vernon, NY, the son of a journalist and publicist Edward Michael Carney and his wife Helen. Arthur family was Irish, Catholic.
During the Second World Carney served in the infantry; during the Battle of Normandy, he was wounded in the leg by shrapnel – because he had to limp to the end of life.
Carney was thrice married to two women – married to Gene Myers, he was first in the period from 1940 to 1965, the second, and then – from 1980 until his death. From 1966 to 1977, the second actor lived with Barbara Aysek. Marriage to Arthur Myers gave three children – Brian, Paul and Eileen.
Carney died on November 9 of 2003, of natural causes at his home in Westbrook, Conn.

In 1950, Jackie Gleason got the lead role in the comedy project ‘Cavalcade of Stars’. In the same project worked and Arthur Carney; Gleason they got along surprisingly well in the future often collaborated. Gleason regularly invited Carney in various sketch show – especially successful release of their duet in the series ‘The Honeymooners’.
