The position of a theater critic inspired by Joseph decided to come to grips with the participation in the theater, first in Virginia and later in New York City (New York). Joseph Cheshire Cotten (Joseph Cheshire Cotton) was born on 15 May 1905 in Peterburg Virginia (Petersburg, Virginia). The son of Sallie Bartlett Wilson (Sallie Bartlett Willson) and Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Sr. (Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Sr.), after graduating from acting school in Washington Hickman (Hickman School of Speech and Expression, Washington, DC), worked as an advertising agent.

In the film debuted in the role of Cotten Billings Augustus (Augustus Billings) in the comedy short film Welles ‘Too Much Johnson’ (‘Too Much Johnson’) based on the play by William Gillette (William Gillette) 1890 th. He returned to Broadway in 1939, where he received the role of SK Dexter Haven (CK Dexter Haven) in the original production of Philip Barry (Philip Barry) ‘The Philadelphia Story’.

At the age of 75 years, ex-actor and his wife lived in seclusion at his home in Los Angeles, California (Los Angeles, California). In 1987, he published his autobiography, ‘Vanity Will Get You Somewhere’, which became a bestseller.
Joseph Cotten died of pneumonia caused by cancer of the throat, on 6 February 1994, at the age of 88 years. Despite the long and enviable career in film activity, its only significant award became prize of the Venice International Film Festival ‘Volpi Cup’ for his work in the film “Portrait of Jennie.”
