Her childhood was spent in the city of Lincoln, where she was in a local theater group, and at the age of 19 years, Dennis moved to New York.
 
Dale Sandra “Sandy” Dennis was born April 27, 1937 in Hastings, Nebraska, the son of the Secretary Yvonne and postal clerk Jack Dennis. In addition to her family even had a son, Frank. Her childhood was spent in the city of Lincoln, where she was in a local theater group, and at the age of 19 years, Dennis moved to New York.
In 1956, Sandy made her debut on television, and in 1961 it first appeared in the movie, in the movie “Splendor in the Grass.” A little later began her career in the theater and in 1963 she was awarded the “Tony” as “Best newcomer” for his role in pse “A Thousand Clowns”. A year later, she again received the “Tony” for his role in “any medium”. In 1966 he played the role of Sandy Honey, alcoholic wife-character George Segal in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, A role which earned her an “Oscar” award for “Best Actress”. Her subsequent roles have become successful Sylvia in “Up the Down Staircase” (1967) and Sarah in “Sweet November” (1968). And follow her most significant role was in Mona “Come to me for a meeting, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean” (1982).
Over time Sandy was with jazz musician Gerry Mulligan, which broke up in 1976. From 1980 to 1985. she lived with actor Eric Roberts.
Sandy Dennis died of cancer March 2, 1992 in Westport, Connecticut at the age of 54 years.
