American actor, comedian, member of the comic troupe known as the Marx Brothers.
 
Groucho Marx with his brothers was born in New York City. As a child with them became involved in vaudeville, where he developed a stage persona, which did not leave for many years – painted black eyebrows and mustache, glasses and a cigar. He is always portrayed sardonic businessman and adventurer who constantly cause problems gracious society.
Groucho first success with the brothers reached on Broadway in the musical “I would say that it is” in 1924. In the movie, he made his debut in the company of brothers back in 1921, but public attention they attracted only in 1929 after the release of pictures of “Coconut nuts.” This was followed by a successful role in the comedy “Horse Feathers” (1932), “Duck Soup” (1933), “An Evening at the Opera” (1935) and “Day at the Races” (1937), which brought him immense popularity. In the 1940s, they cast quintet gradually disintegrated and each engaged in an individual’s career. In the 1950s, Groucho was the host of the popular television show “rate – your life”, played several small roles on the big screen, and also wrote three autobiographies.
Groucho Marx died of pneumonia at a clinic in Los Angeles in 1977.
