Nia Long was born in Brooklyn, New York area, the family of Afro-Trinidadian descent. Her mother, Talita, a teacher and an artist, engraver, and his father, Dautri “Doc” Long, was a teacher in a secondary school and a poet. Her stage name, Nia, is the name of one of the seven days of the African American Festival “Kwanza” in Swahili means “desire.” Parents NITAR divorced when she was two years old, and she and her mother moved to Iowa City, where her mother studied fine arts. When she was seven years old, they moved to Los Angeles.
Little NITAR studied at a Roman Catholic school, “St. Mary’s Academy”, where the main subjects were ballet, tap dance, jazz, gymnastics, playing guitar and amateur. In 1989 she graduated from high school Uestchesterskuyu. Coming to live in Los Angeles with his mother experiencing financial difficulties, so her mother grabbed at any low-paying jobs to support the family.

November 26, 2000 Nia Long gave birth to a son. His father was NITAR boyfriend, actor Massai Dorsey. They were engaged and plan to marry, but after some time to end the relationship.
