Olympia Dukakis and her brother Apollo grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of Greek immigrants (their father Constantine originally from Asia Minor, and the mother of Alexander – from Greece itself).

She went on to star in blockbusters making roles in films such as ‘Steel Magnolias’, ‘Mr. Holland’s Opus’, ‘Look who says’. In addition, Olympia Dukakis has lectured at various conferences on women’s issues and the environment.
