Brenda Blethyn was born on 20 February 1946 in England and became the youngest of nine children born to Catholic hardworking and exemplary family. Mother of the actress – Kathleen Louise – was a homemaker, and his father – William Charles – mechanical engineer. The family lived quite modestly, as did the vast majority of families in the postwar period.
