Lois Maureen Stapleton was born on June 21, 1925 in the city of Troy, New York, USA. Daughter Irene Walsh and John P. Stapleton, who came from Ireland grew by strict Catholic canon. Her father was an alcoholic, and his parents divorced Maureen when she was a child.
Upon reaching adulthood, Stapleton moved to New York where he moonlighted as a model to regularly pay the bills.
